OBJECTIVE:-
“World Food Day” is a day of action against hunger. World Food Day celebrates the creation of the food and Agricultural organizations. World Food Day was celebrated by the Enviro-club, Department of Biotechnology, on 17th October 2016 as 16th October falls on Sunday of the month. It was celebrated to create awareness and to emphasize the importance of food habits among the students.

“World Food Day” was celebrated in association with the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. The theme of the celebration was “Climate is changing. Food and Agriculture must too”. The department of Biotechnology actively invited the other Departments of HCAS for the event. The programme started with the prayer song by II year B.Sc girls and welcome speech by Dean of Life Sciences, Head of the Department – Microbiology Dr. Illanjiam. Dr. Elizabeth Rani Junieus Head of the Department – Biotechnology greeted the invited chief Guest with fruit bouquet and memento. The programme was inaugurated by Mr.Neelakandan, Demonstration officer, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. The Head of the Department Biotechnology Dr.Elizabeth Rani Junieus delivered a prominence lecture with her concise PowerPoint presentation on the theme of celebration. The lecture was clear and brief enough to emphasis the impact of climate change on the agricultural productions.
THE CONTRIBUTION OF STUDENTS:-
In accordance to the above mentioned objective of the celebration, The Ministry of Women and Child Development conducted Quiz competition to the 20 students of Biotechnology department on the theme. Students of B.Sc and M.Sc actively participated in the Poster presentation with 10 posters with comprises handmade and printed .They also displayed their 3 models to highlight the impact of climate change on the food and agricultural productions.Dr.Susan Marthandan Director, Hindustan college of Arts & Science gave the special address in valedictory function and focused attention on the importance of food and hunger. Prizes (certificates with Gold medal) were distributed to the students who won the first three places in the above mentioned competitions also the participation certificates were given to boost up the participants.The entire programme was anchored by S. Balaji Ayyadurai II B.Sc Biotechnology. The programme successfully ended up with Vote of thanks by Dr.T.Ramesh, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology and with National Anthem.
INFERENCE:-
Every human being has a fundamental right to be free from hunger and the right to adequate food. Because, when it comes for hunger, the only acceptable number in the world is zero. To spotlight on the impact of climate change and to create awareness on hunger, world food day was celebrated.
